Political competition affects Rupiah stability

 Political competition affects Rupiah stability
Jakarta-Chairman of the Anti-Debt Coalition, Dani Setiawan said that competition among Indonesian political elites became one of factors affecting the IDR weakening against USD. The increasing political constellation ahead presidential inaguration and power struggle in parliament becomes major factors on IDR stability.

"Politics have many impacts everywhere. It also affects IDR stability," Setiawan said recently.

According to him, investors prefer to wait for favorable political situation rather than carry out maneuver and speculate about the current condition. Investors and business sectors also tend to wait for the announcement of new cabinet led by the elected president Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, especially related to appropriate names of ministers according to market expectations.

"Investors still wait and see in heated political condition," he added.

IDR weakening is only temporary. Setiawan hopes that Jokowi will put ministers who have good track records and encourage the economic growth. (rep05/rol)
